SMTP Mail Server, From Address, Reply-To Address

If you have enabled Web Subscriptions, you must specify the name of the SMTP mail server that will originate update email and the From and Reply-To addresses that will be used on update email.

A mail server that supports SMTP is required to originate update email. Type the computer name of the mail server in the SMTP Mail Server field in fully qualified domain name (FQDN). If the mail server is on your LAN or WAN and you are using WINS, you can type the server name by itself, but do not include a double backslash prefix (\\). If you are using Microsoft Exchange Server, ensure that the Internet Mail Service is configured, and type the computer name of the Microsoft Exchange server in the SMTP Mail Server field.

SMTP Server Name examples:

Correct Incorrect
mail.company.com (FQDN) company.com (not fully qualified)
smtp1 (computer name, no backslash prefix) \\smtp1 (has backslash prefix)

You must also type the From Address and Reply-To Address for update email. The From address is the address that the update email will appear to be from when the subscriber reads the email. The Reply-To address is where replies will be sent if the subscriber clicks the reply button and replies to the update email. By specifying unique values for these two address fields, you can have update email appear to be from one identity (for example, Accounting_OSE_Server@company.com), yet redirect replies to a particular user (for example, joeOSEadmin@accounting.company.com). This will make your update email appear to be from an automated process (as it, indeed, is), yet still send replies directly to the person that needs to see them.
